Learning Canvas Workshops

DELTA workshops to learn Canvas will begin in October. Teaching Resources articles and guides will be added to support those workshops.

• Register for an Upcoming DELTA Canvas Basics Workshop – Canvas Basics workshop options include:
  • A Four-Part Canvas Basics Series
    • Register for Part One, Part Two, Part Three, Part Four all offered online via Zoom.
      • Workshop recordings and resources
  • An in-person 1/2 day Canvas Basics “Intensive” to get immersed in Canvas – leave with a course ready-to-go.
  • A Two-Hour Canvas Basics: Essentials to learn the key basics of Canvas and start setting up a course.
  • Note: The basics workshops cover the same objectives at different levels of depth and in different formats to meet participant scheduling needs.
• In addition to the Canvas Basics series, more specialized workshops will be offered beginning Spring, 2027. Workshops in development include:
  • H5P, NC State Book and Moodle Lesson Replacement Guidance (branching and packaging content in Canvas)
  • Accessing and Using Canvas Templates
  • Designing Canvas for Online, Asynchronous Courses
  • Assessing Learning in Canvas: Deeper Dive into Quizzes
  • Group Work in Canvas
  • Peer Review with NC State Tools and Canvas

Canvas-Friendly Moodle Courses

When designing Moodle with Canvas in mind, it’s best to organize by Sections (called Modules in Canvas). Use primarily Moodle Pages for course content (URLs and Files also work), and use Forums, Assignments, Quizzes and our NC State external tools for activities and assessments.

• Prepping Your Course for Our Move to Canvas – Explore ways to prep existing Moodle courses to make them migrate better into Canvas.

• Canvas Instructor Guides – Official Canvas hub for instructor guides, some features of Canvas shared in the guides may be different in the NC State version of Canvas.
• DELTA’s Knowledge Base – Canvas articles and guides. Learn how AI tools can support early stages of course planning, beginning with well-written learning objectives.
• Creating an Accessible Canvas Course – Use Pope Tech’s tools within Canvas to identify and fix accessibility issues at the point of editing, and scan your whole course to find any lingering issues to correct.
• Getting Started with the QuickStart Wizard in Canvas – The DesignPLUS QuickStart Wizard provides beautifully designed templates for Canvas.
